turn of the day - I. Twilight
Turn of the Day is a song cycle for solo soprano written in 2022. The piece is a setting of my own poetry, which describes a sunrise and all that comes with it. Here you can hear the first movement of four, performed by Australian soprano, Sarah Dockrill. The full cycle is yet to be completed as we are currently pursuing avenues for performance or recording opportunities. As such, the piece is currently open to commission!
I am faced by a remarkable dawn,
Whose somber hood
Limply drips across the horizon;
The hidden sun leaks streaks
Of what’s to come -
It aches, dully
In an hour or so,
She will pull herself up
And, peering over the edge,
Will stare and rouge the hoary light
Her gigantic arms will reek, startlingly obtuse,
Westward;
Across meadows,
Rainforests, complex cities, and a quiet
Village in the hills
